HTC Dream aka T-Mobile Dream aka “The First Android Phone” becoming real?

According to CrunchGear, the HTC Dream (or “T-Mobile Dream”, as they will call it over at T-Mobile) is expected to be announced to the public today. This is then going to officially be the first mobile phone released that will be based on Google’s Linux-based Android platform.

The same good folks at CrunchGear also published some info they dug up on the hardware specifications of this device. Some of the more interesting specs from my own personal perspective:

  • 528Mhz Qualcomm 7201 processor
  • Data kit for USB connectivity in the box
  • 64MB Internal RAM
  • 128MB Internal ROM
  • 1GB MicroSD card
  • 5 Row QWERTY keypad
  • 3.1MP camera (no flash) 2048 x 1536
  • Quad Band (850, 900, 1800, 1900)
  • 3G
  • 802.11b & 802.11g
  • UMTS (1,4), HSDPA, SUPL
  • Screen size is 3.17″ with HVGA (480 x 320)

In essence, the device looks like a supercharged Freerunner, although with “just” an HVGA screen. But the really exciting thing is that this device is also Linux-based from the factory, so that makes me hopeful that hardware support and driver matters would be in order, and that we can then “easily” reinstall the device and therefore make an Igelle port as well.

Hopefully these “dreams” will come true :) Let us see how the launching proceeds.
