Igelle v0.4.0

Igelle is a Linux-based operating system distribution that is designed to run on various different devices, including desktop/laptop computers, cellular phones, mobile internet devices and other small or large computers.

Igelle v0.4.0 is an incremental release over the previous 0.3.0 and 0.3.1, with some notable differences and developments (mostly under the hood):

  • Rewritten installer backend (very clean, now easily supporting pre-configured installations)
  • Support for real username, full name and unique password query in the installer
  • Updated Ige package manager, now with automatic dependency resolving
  • Simplified build dependency structure
  • Proper file attribute handling and special file packaging through the use of Melas v0.10.0 and fakeroot
  • General improvements to the desktop UI (including reboot/shutdown dialog, background wallpaper, ..)
  • BarPanel v0.3.1 :)

As the version number suggests, this is still alpha quality software, and not yet completely functional or of production quality. Still, it is completely installable and usable, and many things do work. Hopefully it proves to be of some interest even in it’s current form.

Installable images for i386 PC, together with the source code can be downloaded from the Igelle project site.

The ISO installer has initially (prior to release) been tested under KVM only - however, it should work fine on most standard PC hardware. Please post any possible experiences here.
